Public backlash over recent immigration-related comments by presidential candidate Donald Trump continued this week as both ESPN and the Professional Golfers Association canceled tournaments set to take place on the Trump National Los Angeles course.
The PGA explained in a statement that Trump met with the association and all parties “mutually agreed” to the decision.
Trump replied by insisting he has plenty to do at the posh club without hosting the two upcoming golf tournaments:
This also allows me the time to rebuild the golf course in Los Angeles, fronting the Pacific Ocean and considered to be one of the finest parcels of land anywhere in the United States, into the course I always wanted it to be.
While he has questioned the corporate character of other former business partners, Trump made it clear that he still has “great respect for the PGA of American and everything they stand for.”
