When RedState editor Erick Erickson explained why Ben Carson was not among the invited presidential candidates to appear at his recent event, he alleged the decision was based on the former neurologist’s treatment of the audiences at two military events.
Instead of focusing on issues relevant to the crowd, Erickson asserted that Carson “spent the entire time talking about himself” and bashing Barack Obama.
Carson confidant Armstrong Williams, however, took exception to the allegations.
Calling Erickson’s characterization a “smear and outright lie,” Williams challenged him to provide a transcript backing up the claim. As for Carson’s record, his adviser maintained:
On the occasions when Dr. Carson uses stories from his personal narrative, it is to illustrate how one can overcome difficult situations.
He concluded that Carson “holds our troops and veterans in the highest esteem, and would never give a speech to a group of them without specifically addressing their concerns.”
