When New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo addressed an increase in gun violence in his state, for example, he blamed the spike on states – specifically in the South – with gun laws more in line with the spirit of the Second Amendment. He asserted:
As long as you can get a gun from some state down south, put it in a trunk and drive it up, it’s going to get in this state – and that’s what’s happening.
Many social media critics made it clear that they found his rhetoric insulting.
Cuomo went on to advocate for additional gun restriction measures covering those he deemed “mentally ill people and criminals.”
