Unlike some other Republican presidential candidates, Marco Rubio has increased his polling numbers despite engaging in some direct verbal battles with front-runner Donald Trump.
Currently tied for third with Carly Fiorina, Rubio has long been critical of Trump’s demeanor on the campaign trail. Back-and-forth between the two candidates made headlines again last week when an audience booed Trump for referring to Rubio as a clown.
The Florida senator responded by calling Trump’s campaign a “freak show,” adding that he has no desire to be a part of it.
Rubio went on to describe Trump as thin-skinned and uninterested in tackling legitimate issues. He concluded:
My sense of it is that every time issues become prominent, he will say something outrageous or do something outrageous so that he doesn’t have to talk about the issues.
