According to the Department of Justice, one Massachusetts convenience store owner could have been the poster child for such fraud during an alleged scheme that spanned more than four years and netted her more than $3.6 million.
A recent DOJ press release explained:
From April 2010 to October 2014, [Vida] Causey conspired with others to commit [Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program] fraud by purchasing SNAP benefits from recipients rather than exchanging them for food.
Causey is facing multiple charges – including fraud and money laundering – and could face more than three decades behind bars and millions in financial restitution.
