Following the apparently targeted slaughter of Christian students during a recent Oregon shooting, the lieutenant governor of Tennessee is warning believers that now is the time to take precaution. In a recent Facebook post, Ron Ramsey wrote:
I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit.
While the motivation — “aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy” — may vary, Ramsey wrote that the “targets remain the same: Christians and defenders of the West.”
Some have cited the Oregon tragedy, which occurred in a ‘gun-free’ zone without armed security, as evidence that legal access to firearms should be encouraged. Others, including Barack Obama, took the opportunity to “politicize” the issue in pursuit of stricter gun control laws. Ramsey’s position is clear:
I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. Our enemies are armed. We must do likewise.
