Even as many on the left intensified calls to regulate — or even confiscate — American citizens’ firearms, a federal report shows the FBI processed a staggering number of background checks last month.
Roughly 1.8 million individuals sent in applications during September, meaning the actual number of firearms sold was likely much higher.
The total represents a high for the particular month and surpassed four previous months of record-high background checks. The closest September total came in 2012 and fell more than 335,000 checks short of 2015 statistics.
Officials recorded more gun sales this summer than during any other on record.
At least one gun rights advocate chalked up the recent firearm sales boom to the anti-gun rhetoric of many prominent Democrats. Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb concluded:
If they really want less guns in private hands they should consider what happens every time they open their mouths.
