Longtime ACLU president now praising conservatives as defenders of free speech

Expressing her support of a Purdue University policy promoting free expression on campus, former American Civil Liberties Union president Nadine Strossen made a bold proclamation about the state of the First Amendment.
Though she sat at the helm of the left-leaning ACLU for 17 years, Strossen is convinced that it is now the political right which has the moral high ground in protecting America’s founding liberty.
“Sadly,” she said, “support for robust free speech is declining among liberals as it’s ascending among conservatives.”
The trend is more pronounced on college campuses across the nation, she concluded, because “faculties typically are dominated by liberals.”
