When the Broward County, Fla., lawman announced a recent event billed as an Islamic outreach event, it was described as a public workshop. According to a group of locals who say they attempted to attend, however, the apparently open-invitation event quickly became a Muslim-only affair.
Deputy Sheriff Nezare Hamze, whose work history includes an influential spot on the controversial Council on Islamic-American Relations, reportedly hosted the Lakewood event at which Alan Kornman and his friends say they were denied entry.
Kornman and company were described in one report as peaceful. Nevertheless, Hamze reportedly looked on as they were escorted out and told the event was reserved for the “community.”
