In a recent blog post, Ronald Reagan’s daughter, Patti Davis, responded directly to actor Will Ferrell following an announcement that he is making a comedy film mocking the Republican president’s dementia.
“Perhaps if you knew more,” Davis wrote, “you would not find the subject humorous.”
She went on to explain the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
“It sweeps up entire families, forcing everyone to claw their way through overwhelming grief, confusion, helplessness, and anger,” she wrote in the open letter to Ferrell. “Perhaps for your comedy you would like to visit some dementia facilities. I have — I didn’t find anything comedic there, and my hope would be that if you’re a decent human being, you wouldn’t either.”
