9 in 10 Native Americans do not find ‘Redskins’ name offensive

A nationwide poll conducted by The Washington Post over the past several months finds that, despite much controversy throughout the past several years, Native Americans by and large are not offended by the ‘Redskins’ name or team mascot.

Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, who has long defended the franchise moniker, saw the poll — which found just nine percent of respondents found the name offensive — as vindication.

“The Washington Redskins team, our fans and community have always believed our name represents honor, respect and pride,” he responded in a statement. “Today’s Washington Post polling shows Native Americans agree.”
