While social justice activism — as opposed, in many cases, to biblical teachings — has been an increasingly common topic of discussion from American pulpits, one denomination is taking such rhetoric much further with a new directive aimed at its white members.
A 10-step posting by the United Church of Christ lays out the manner in which white members, who happen to make up the majority of the denomination, should address their inherent white privilege.
The list begins with a stern warning for whites who show up to protest alongside minorities.
“Take up minimal space during anti-racism dialogues and protests,” the instruction read.
Suggestions only got more inane from there, culminating in the most condescending assertion imaginable.
“Recognize that you’re still racist,” the church proclaims to white people trying to do the right thing. “No matter what.”
