Though her birthday remains more than a month away, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign began soliciting online signatures for her birthday card last week.
Of course, such a solicitation is an all-but-unveiled ploy to add email addresses to the fundraising list; however, that did not stop Twitter critics from responding directly to the post with their own thoughts about the soon-to-be 69-year-old former first lady.
Several noted the four Americans killed in the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, would not be available to wish her well ahead of her birthday.
Plenty of references to the rumors of Clinton’s ill health also peppered the comments section.
“They know she won’t make it till October,” one Twitter user wrote, suggesting the campaign posted the card early to give her one “last happy birthday.”
At least a few users trolled the Clinton account with a meme depicting Pepe the frog — a cartoon Clinton herself denounced as a racist symbol of the Trump campaign — joining in the celebration of the former secretary of state’s birthday.
