An off-duty police officer in the Miami area stopped to record an unusual sight in the wake of Hurricane Irma’s destructive path through the region.
Sister Mary Ann, wearing her habit, was in the road adjacent to Archbishop Coleman Carrol High School clearing debris with a chainsaw.
In a CNN interview, she explained why she took on the task. She said the road was blocked, adding she had seen at least one motorist nearly wreck.
“There was a need, I had the means, so I wanted to help,” she said.
The school had chainsaws in a closet, the teacher explained, and “they needed to be used.”
