Authorities in Lexington, Miss., say four inmates were able to escape from Holmes-Humphreys County Correctional Facility — and then sneak back in after robbing a local Dollar General.

A police spokesperson told WCVB that surveillance footage from the store, located less than a mile from the jail, helped determine it was the four local inmates responsible for the robbery.

The individuals are suspected of stealing cigarettes, lighters, cell phones and other items they believed they could sell or barter after returning to their cells.

Jail officials are reportedly looking into beefing up security following the bizarre incident.
