Police in Clarkstown, N.Y., recently shared harrowing footage of a train slamming into a stranded vehicle just after the car’s driver retreated to safety.

The incident occurred Sunday evening at a railroad crossing in Congers.

“Thankfully the sole occupant of the car was able to get away from the car before the train hit it,” authorities wrote.

The affected portion of track was temporarily closed as the vehicle was towed away and officials performed an inspection on the rails.
